Breaking Bread
3rd December 2025
Our Breaking Bread Series is a line-up of limited-edition collaborations with iconic UK breweries.
Following the launch of our inaugural beer in the Breaking Bread series with Tiny Rebel (see below), we're proud to introduce the next beer in the series ....
This time it's with the brilliant team at Northern Monk.
The sequel is a 4.5% dry‑hopped Lager, with classic hops giving herby aromas of freshly cut grass with a citrus-led bite.
Like its predecessor, it’s crafted using 19,000 slices of surplus bakery bread. That’s a stack reaching the height of 12 Angels of the North! The bread substitutes part of the malted barley to avoid waste and lighten the beer’s environmental impact.
Collaboration for the win
The Breaking Bread series is all about inspiring brewers up and down the UK to break bread together. Literally. Connecting people, across the brewing industry and across communities, to raise a Toast to planet Earth*.
We’ve loved collaborating with Northern Monk over the years (did you get your hands on our punchy Peanut Butter and Jam Stout collab last year?), and it’s great they're part of this epic brewery series.
This collaboration continues our mission of community, creativity, and sustainability - values Northern Monk champions as well. Like Toast and Tiny Rebel, they're also a certified as a B Corp. As a B Corps, we’re part of a community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact.
Available in Co‑op now
This Lager will be available in over 500 Co‑op stores nationwide, just like its predecessor. You may still find some of the Tiny Rebel Hazy Pale on shelves, but when it’s gone, it’s gone. And it passes the baton to this special beer.
Whether you're a fan of crisp Lagers or hazy Pale Ales, all beers in the Breaking Bread series share a powerful purpose - turning precious surplus into pints that pack a punch for the planet.

First in the series: Tiny Rebel
We kicked off the Breaking Bread series with a proper lip-smacking brew. It's a bold and brilliant Hazy Pale Ale brewed in collaboration with the mighty Tiny Rebel.
Tiny Rebel are Wales’ biggest independent craft brewery, known for their playful, flavour-packed beers. They’re proudly certified as a B Corp, just like us, and share our ambition to make beer that’s better for the planet.
Together, we brewed this vibrant beer with 19,000 slices of surplus bakery bread. That’s a loaf equivalent to the length of Tower Bridge!
The bread, which replaced some of the malted barley, gives body and character. A duo of hops - Mosaic and ID-7 for those in the know - brings bright notes of pineapple and a zesty citrus punch. Mouth watering yet?
The Breaking Bread Series’ Hazy Pale is available in over 500 Co-op stores nationwide. It’s at £3 for a 440ml can. And every sip is a celebration of what can happen when people unite around a great purpose.
Next in the Breaking Bread Series
Watch this space for the next limited-edition to hit the shelves. Future beer collabs in the Breaking Bread Series include fresh new brews with a special Norfolk-based sustainability leader.
Here’s to breaking bread together, celebrating community and bringing people together over a pint.
Cheers!
* Brewing with surplus loaves in place of barley means there’s more land and water available for food crops and nature. And none of the delicious bread is going to waste. Food waste is one of the biggest contributors to climate change, and bread is the most wasted food in the UK - 20 million slices of bread are wasted every single day. It’s mind-blowing! To us, turning surplus bakery bread into a refreshing pint is the ultimate win. Raise a Toast to Planet Earth
