The World’s First Living Beer Tap

We're beyond excited to share some big news with you all. Drumroll, please! 

We're launching our award-winning Rise Up Lager in select Star Pubs. But here's the best part: this isn't your average beer launch. Nope, we invite you to witness “Nature Taking Over” your local. We're introducing the world’s first living beer tap - giving you an experience that'll make you feel like you're enjoying a cold one out in nature, right in your local pub! 

With HEINEKEN’S support, our Rise Up Lager will be flowing from the taps of select Star Pubs starting this July. We’ve been working with HEINEKEN since 2022 as a strategic investor, focussing on research and development, as part of their net zero ambitions. 

But this partnership isn't just about serving up awesome beer; it symbolises our commitment to a greener, brighter future. Collaboration has always been key to our strategy for achieving change, and we’re excited to be able to scale our work with this launch.

So, what exactly is a living beer tap?

Our living taps are covered in moss, namely Plagiothecium Undulatum, a part of the Platiotheciaceae family (try saying that 3 times fast!) So like a living wall, but just smaller. It’s produced in a natural way - similar to farming crops. It's then harvested by hand and applied to the tap backing. During the process it is cleaned and some of the moisture is taken out, so it grows much more slowly and requires very little maintenance. 

It's also an experience, folks! Picture yourself down the local, enjoying a pint poured from a tap adorned with living, lush, mossy greenery, giving off major garden vibes. As part of our Nature's Taking Over campaign we’re bringing the joy of our commitment to a greener, brighter future to pubs near you. It's a reminder that nature is all around us, even when we're kicking back with a cold one in the city. 

And visual cue nature is everywhere, especially in the food we eat. Toast was set up in 2015 to stop food waste - our way of helping to save nature. We’re hoping that our living beer taps at the very least, start a (lively!) conversation and hopefully inspire change.
